Orecchiette Helmets

ORECCHIETTE HEMETS, 2015
Orecchiette/Helmets: protection, symbol, ancient armor. Being a woman is a continuous challenge to avoid becoming simple spectators in a world that does not give space to abilities. Today's woman is a complex, fascinating figure with a thousand facets, daughter, mother, lover, fragile and at the same time a warrior, ready to fight for her rights without losing her femininity.
“…being a woman is so challenging and fascinating. It's an adventure that requires such courage, a challenge that never gets boring..”
                                      O. Fallaci

This work was born from the spontaneous collaboration of the artist's mother, who gradually became disabled due to illness, the manipulation of clay became a pleasant pastime, a sort of therapeutic game that recalls the memory of the making of the traditional fresh pasta of the his homeland, the orecchiette from Basilicata; excuse to still feel useful despite her disability, this work talks about a woman who, despite all her misfortunes, gives herself strength and, like a warrior, protects herself with her symbolic helmet, that is, the courage to move forward.Orecchiette/Helmets is made from unglazed white, red and brown terracotta elements to elevate and make visible the beauty of simplicity.
